Location: Surrounding the hilltop town of Vilalba dels Arcs, around 450m above sea level.
Varieties: Garnacha 50%, Cariñena 40%, Cabernet Sauvignon 10%.
Vine age: Old vines - 45 years and above for Garnacha and Cariñena.
Selection: Selection of best hillside vineyards, based on optimum age, height, health and maturity of vines.
Harvesting is in September, when maturation conditions are at their best. Grapes are picked by hand and transported to the winery for quality control, ensuring they are intact and healthy on arrival and in optimum condition for winemaking.
Grape varieties are vinified seperately, with temperature controlled fermentation at 28 to 30º C. They remain in their vats for a further 20 to 22 days, giving good wine colour and polyphenolic content, with continual quality checks.
The wine is aged entirely in French barrels for 15 months before bottling.
Colour: Deep dark cherry colour with tinges of violet
Nose: Intense nose of dark ripe fruit (plum, blackberry) with well integrated oak and spicy notes.
Taste: Huge initial taste with good structure and complex layers of rich flavour. Good acidity and subtle tannins from the garnacha combine with dark fruits and spicy, liquorice notes from the oak, leading to a superb satisfying finish.
This wine will develop well over the next 4 to 8 years.
It should be served at a temperature of around 17 to
